Hockey overtimes rules were put into play tonight in the Men’s Gold Medal game with the USA vs. Canada at the 2010 Olympics. The hockey overtime rules were those used in the NHL playoffs with a sudden death overtime game.

The hockey overtime rules helped Team Canada win their gold medal game today when Sidney Crosby was able to put the puck in the net past goalie Ryan Miller. In the sudden death rules, the first team to score a goal wins the game.

Team USA scored a goal to tie the score at 2 with just 25 seconds left. Zach Parise slapped the puck past Roberto Luongo to send the game into overtime and bring into play the hockey overtime rules.

Fans may have thought the game may have been decided by a shootout but that was not the case.
